Eradication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, like others that have gone before, may not be feasible or attainable.
Instead, we need to rely on all the known various weapons to fight the virus; vaccination programmes, self-testing, proper wearing of face masks, social distancing, working remotely, etc. These measures will allow us to coexist with the virus while reducing our own risk and protecting the most vulnerable in society.
Globally, communities will reach a point where the Coronavirus is incorporated into other common viruses that we are used to dealing with all the time. We must reflect on how we live with other routinely circulating viruses, such as influenza, respiratory virus, and others.
All of this will require a huge mental shift and the acceptance of a new element of manageable risk in our lives.
