A study recently published by Galilee Medical Centre in Israel has found a link between patients with low level of vitamin D and severe COVID-19 disease. According to this research, there is a remarkable and striking difference between patients suffering from a serious illness who have low vitamin D levels, and patients who maintained normal levels of the same vitamin.
Patients with a vitamin D deficiency were 14 times more likely to have a severe or critical case of COVID-19. In addition, the mortality rate for those with insufficient vitamin D levels was 25.6%, compared with 2.3% among those with adequate levels.
These results underscore the value of taking vitamin D supplements during the pandemic.
