Under the auspices of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Hungary, the European Preliminary of the Buenos Aires Tango World Championship 2026 returned to the Hungarian capital, Budapest, from 23 to 26 April 2026 for its second consecutive edition. The prestigious event once again established Budapest as one of Europe’s leading centres of Argentine tango, bringing together outstanding dancers, renowned teachers, distinguished judges, and tango enthusiasts from across the continent.

The three-day championship celebrated not only artistic excellence but also Argentina’s rich cultural heritage, further strengthening the bonds between Argentina and Hungary through one of the world’s most elegant and universally admired dance traditions.

As winners of the European Preliminary, Sergiy Podbolotnyy and Olena Sergiienko have earned the honour of participating in the Buenos Aires Tango World Championship, to be held between August and September 2026, where they will compete alongside the world’s finest tango dancers at the birthplace of Argentine tango.

The organisers expressed their sincere appreciation to the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Budapest, the Sándor Demján Foundation, INPROTUR Argentina, OTP Travel, Malbec, Tango Temptation, the distinguished international jury, all participants, volunteers and the entire tango community, whose dedication, professionalism, enthusiasm and unwavering support contributed to the success of this year’s championship.

A special highlight of the event was the participation of Diana and Cecilia of Yanin Zapatos, who travelled from Buenos Aires to Budapest to present their handcrafted tango shoes made from premium Argentine leather. Their presence brought an authentic expression of Argentine craftsmanship, tradition and contemporary design to the European tango community, further enriching the cultural dimension of the championship.

More than a competition, the European Preliminary 2026 demonstrated the enduring power of tango as a living cultural heritage – one that transcends borders, connects cultures and generations, and inspires people worldwide through music, elegance, and shared artistic expression.

For Sergiy Podbolotnyy and Olena Sergiienko, the road now leads from Budapest to Buenos Aires, where they will proudly represent Europe on the world’s most prestigious tango stage.
