China is currently trying to control what may be one of the biggest outbreaks of COVID-19 in the country, and from the past experience we can anticipate that a new wave from Asia could quickly reach Europe and the rest of the world.

Are the unvaccinated still a danger to the rest of us?

Indeed, we know that an unknown number of people have currently “hybrid immunity” from both infection and vaccine, according to experts, the unvaccinated and under-vaccinated almost certainly play an outsized role in the coronavirus’s continued success, exactly how much is hard to pinpoint.

The transmission differences between the vaccinated and unvaccinated are quantifiable in the lab, but applying these differences to the real world is much trickier, especially in a population that is so immunologically diverse.

The unvaccinated and under-vaccinated could accelerate the emergence of new coronavirus variants, some of which are bound to be even more transmissible or more capable to evading the existing COVID-19 vaccines and therapies, causing new waves of transmission and illness.

The danger that unvaccinated pose to the rest of us is more debatable and not clear at this point, but it is crystal clear that they are a risk for themselves, having 6 times more probabilities to die from Covid than those who are fully vaccinated.

Keep safe everyone!
