We cannot stop the Delta variant in its tracks, but we can change our behaviour overnight and that includes wearing masks, limiting social gatherings, staying home when sick, and getting vaccinated.
The Delta variant has sparked an increase in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in the USA; reporting an average of more than 1,100 new deaths each day. This is hitting the levels last recorded in March.
The COVID-19 pandemic is far from being over.
A recent study – published in the ‘Nature Medicine’ peer-reviewed medical journal – examined the role of mRNA vaccines in pregnant women. The study followed 10,861 pregnant women who were vaccinated with RNA messenger vaccines. It has concluded that these vaccines using this new technology are highly effective in pregnant women against the variants in circulation thus far.
Indeed, the level of protection for pregnant women is comparable to the numbers found in the rest of the general population. However, further studies are needed to establish the protection levels that vaccines provide to infants after birth.
Stay safe.
