Yoga is the fountain of youth and the practice of quieting the mind

The Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in Budapest successfully hosted a grand celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2025, embracing the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” at the Dr. Koltai Jenő Sport Centre, Hungarian University of Sports Science.



The event was one of the largest public yoga gatherings, attracting a vibrant and diverse group from all parts of Hungary, including yoga enthusiasts, friends of India, members of the Indian community, diplomats, and journalists. The celebration beautifully embodied the spirit of unity, peace, and holistic well-being that yoga represents.



Mr. Praveen Kumar, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of India, warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the International Day of Yoga. He appreciated and thanked the yoga enthusiasts for their participation.

Held at one of Central Europe’s oldest and most prestigious sports universities, the event featured an inspiring yoga session led by yoga experts. The session was conducted in both English and Hungarian, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all participants – from beginners to experienced practitioners.



Yoga, an ancient physical, mental, spiritual practice, a great personal discipline that originated in India 5000 years ago. It derives from the Sanskrit and means to join or to unite.
Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, the International Day of Yoga is observed globally on 21 June every year, to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This year’s celebration in Budapest marked the culmination of around 30 yoga programs organised by the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre throughout Hungary in the lead-up to the main event.






The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mukesh Kumar Srivastava, Director of the Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre. He thanked all dignitaries, partners, yoga teachers, volunteers, participants, supporters, and the media for their enthusiastic support. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Hungary for its continued cooperation in promoting the timeless values of yoga.
