On 11 July 2024, the opulent MÚZSA Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest – awarded the Cocktail Bar of the Year in 2024 – hosted the eagerly awaited “Pisco Night”. Organised by the Embassy of Peru in Budapest on the initiative of Ambassador Edgard Pérez Alván, this enchanting event celebrated Peru’s finest and most emblematic distillate: Pisco. Marking the second edition of this cultural series, the night was a vivid display of Peruvian heritage, flavours and music, captivating all those present.

Pisco is a type of brandy produced by distilling fermented grape juice. Originating from the vines on Peru’s southern coast since the 17th century, it holds special cultural significance in Peru, where it is considered the national spirit.

Pisco Night was a memorable evening and an exceptional opportunity for guests to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Peruvian culture through its signature spirit. Attendees savoured an array of exquisite Pisco-based cocktails, each crafted with precision and passion by the talented guest bartender, Peruvian Giancarlo Nazario. His expertise brought the magic of Peru to every sip, offering a genuine taste of the country’s traditions and innovations.

The evening’s cocktail menu was a testament to the versatility and allure of Pisco. Alongside classic favourites like the “Pisco Sour” and “Chilcano”, Nazario introduced two innovative concoctions – the “Amazonic Colada” and the “Anglo Peruvian”. Both new creations were met with overwhelming enthusiasm, highlighting the distillate’s ability to blend seamlessly with a variety of flavours, from tropical fruits to more traditional ingredients.

The ambiance of the event was further elevated by the performance of a Latin American band, whose rhythms infused the night with energy and joy. The live music, combined with the exquisite drinks, created a festive atmosphere, virtually transporting guests straight to the vibrant streets of Peruvian cities.

Among the attendees were representatives of the local press and influencers, eager to capture and share the essence of the evening. Their presence helped to spread the word about the wonders of Pisco and the cultural richness of Peru, ensuring that the spirit of the event resonated far beyond the elegant walls of the Four Seasons Gresham Palace.

The Ambassador’s vision for Pisco Night is part of a broader initiative to promote Peruvian culture and gastronomy in Hungary. Since its inception, starting with the professional “Pisco Masterclass” event held last December, the “Pisco Night” event series has grown in popularity, attracting larger crowds and generating greater interest in Peru’s culinary and cultural offerings.

Each event will feature the beloved Pisco Sour and Chilcano, along with other innovative Pisco-based cocktails, promising a unique and delightful experience for every palate.

The continuation of the series continues offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the warmth and hospitality of Peruvian culture in Budapest.
